Bhimashankar Jungle Trek – Via Ghogol Ghat & Ganesh Ghat
The Bhimashankar Trek is one of the most beautiful and scenic treks in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, taking you deep inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary. This trek offers a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty with lush greenery, dense forests, flowing streams, stunning waterfalls, and rocky landscapes.
It is a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife photographers, as the sanctuary is home to the Giant Indian Squirrel (Shekru), an iconic and rare species found only in this region. During the monsoon, the entire trail transforms into a vibrant green corridor with misty landscapes, making it one of the most mesmerizing treks near Mumbai and Pune.
Unlike the typical Bhimashankar Temple trek, this route focuses on the forest experience. We cover two offbeat trekking routes: Ghogol Ghat and Ganesh Ghat, both known for their beautiful water streams, dense jungle walks, and challenging patches. These routes provide some of the best forest walk experiences in the Sahyadri ranges.

This trek does not cover the Bhimashankar Temple. The focus is on exploring the forest routes, waterfalls, and wildlife habitat through Ghogol Ghat and Ganesh Ghat trails.

Further, depart to base Village.
Day 1:
- 03:00 AM – Reach Base Village
- 04:30 AM – Breakfast and freshen up
- 06:00 AM – Trek begins via Ganesh Ghat after a short briefing and introduction
- 10:00 AM – Reach Bhimashankar (Forest Zone, not the temple) and explore the surroundings
- 11:00 AM – Start descending back to the base via Ghogol Ghat
- 02:00 PM – Reach Base Village
- 02:30 PM – Enjoy a local lunch at the Base Village
- 04:30 PM – Start return journey towards Mumbai
- 10:00 PM – Reach Mumbai (tentative depending on traffic conditions)

Monsoon Safety Measures
- Put clothes, money, camera, phone etc in polythenes while packing
- Wear shoes with good grips
- Use repellents to keep bugs away
- Make note of nearest railway station, bus stop, taxi stand etc.
- Do not stray away from your group during the trek
- Keep family & friends informed about your whereabouts
IMPORTANT:
- Avoid wearing precious Jewelry while trekking, as Sahyadri Rangers treks and tours won’t be responsible for any losses for the same.
- Consuming liquor or any kind of Alcoholic substance is prohibited. Carrying any kind of substance that’s illegal is not allowed. Smoking is strictly not allowed. Anybody found smoking or consuming alcoholic drinks will be expelled from the event without refund.
- Dear Rangers, always remember SHOES are your best companion on a trek! Please wear a good pair of TREKKING SHOES and not sports or running shoes. Make sure they are durable and firm enough to withstand tough conditions. You can carry floaters to wear only after the trek is completed. Feel free to contact Trek Leader prior to the trek in case of any confusion.
Fitness & Health:
Though trekking is a fun-filled activity, it demands good amount of physical fitness. If you are under medication, please carry your medicines. During the trek, leaders will have over the counter medication for temporary treatment, so do give a heads up to them if you need any medical assistance.
Cancellation Policy:
- 75% refund if notified via phone conversation 8 or more days prior to the event date.
- 50 % refund if notified via phone conversation 4 to 7 days prior to the event date.
- No refund if the cancellation requested is less than 3 days prior to the event date
- Event Tickets cannot be transferred to another date against cancellation.
- Event Tickets can be transferred to another person against cancellation.
- If Trek gets canceled we will refund "Trek Amount" only.
